CAN WE ANSWER SOME COMMON QUESTIONS...

WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR BEANS?

Our beans are available at a variety of farm markets around the state. Find us at Horrocks Market (Grand Rapids, Lansing and Battle Creek); Ken's Fruit Market (Grand Rapids); Local Foods (Chicago), Country Life Natural Foods (Pullman). We also distribute our beans through Cherry Capital Foods, JK Distributors, Carmela Foods, Vine Line.

If your favorite store doesn't carry our beans, please request them to do so (Thanks!)

DO I NEED TO SOAK DRY BEANS?
AND, HOW DO I DO IT?

We recommend soaking beans overnight and then cooking them on the stove, in your crock pot, or instant pot the next day.

If you're in a hurry, you can quick soak and cook the same day. To do this, bring the unsoaked beans to a boil covered with water, after they come to a boil turn off the heat and wait 30 minutes before proceeding. Be forwarned, the beans might not be quite as tender as when they're overnight soaked.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COOK BEANS?

If you soak your beans overnight, they'll cook faster, usually in about an hour when simmering on the stove top.

For the slow cooker - soak overnight right in the insert, drain and replace the water in the morning and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4.

For the instant pot - cook times depend on the bean variety and how well cooked you like your beans - usually 20-40 minutes (we like to reference the Green Healthy Cooking blog)

ANY WAY TO REDUCE GAS?

If you soak your beans beforehand, you can reduce gas effects to some degree. And, as you eat beans more frequently, your body will make less gas over time. There are some purported ways to also help reduce gas, but we can't authenticate those--and we have 6 boys under 11 in our extended family, so gas is a big hit.
